Children With Attention Deficit Disorders (CHADD)

The central office of CHADD is a resource for information about ADD as
well as a coordination center for local ADD support groups. This group is
interested in helping to establish support groups across the country and
provides information and guidance for parents or professionals who wish
to begin a local ADD group. The central office will send detailed literature
along with the current meeting schedule of the chapter of CHADD that is
nearest a family’s location. CHADD also sponsors an annual national

Connecticut Association for Children with Learning Disabilities
(CACLD)

Established in 1963, this independent advocacy group for children with
ADD and learning disabilities has an extensive list of resources that are
available for sale. CACLD also sponsors educational programs. Their website
has information about programs, resources and links to other sites. ![]()

International Dyslexia Association (formerly The Orton Dyslexia
Society)

This national organization provides information and support for professionals
as well as adults and children with dyslexia and their parents. An information
packet can be purchased from the Dyslexia Association. Upon request, they
will send information about the nearest local chapter.![]()

Learning Disabilities Association (LDA)
(Formerly the Association for Children with Learning Disabilities - ACLD)

This non-profit national volunteer organization is devoted to defining
and finding solutions for the broad spectrum of learning problems. It is
supported by membership dues, grants, and sale of publications. A newsletter,
Newsbriefs, is published every other month ($13.50 per year) and covers
developments in the field of learning disorders. The organization sponsors
national and state conferences and has an extensive reference library of
over 500 publications, most of which are available for sale. Many states
have chapters of the LDA.![]()
National Alliance for the Mentally Ill, Inc. (NAMI)

This national organization advocates for adults with psychiatric disorders
and provides support and information for their families. This organization
has also been a very strong advocate for the rights and services of children
who suffer from mental illness. Many states have AMI chapters.![]()
National Information Center for Children and Youth with Disabilities
(NICHCY)

NICHCY provides a clearinghouse for free information on disabilities and
